MCF Privacy Policy for Donors and Event Participants
Maine Cancer Foundation is grateful for the generous donations and event registrations that enable our valuable work to reduce the burden of cancer, and we understand the importance of protecting your personal information. Rest assured that registering for an event or giving a tax-deductible donation to Maine Cancer Foundation is safe.
Our web server automatically recognizes but does not collect or use your domain name (IP address). We anonymously track data about your visit in order to compile statistical information about traffic coming into our site and to improve overall user experience.
You are not required to provide any personal information on our website unless you choose to do so. However, in order to properly process charitable gifts, or to register for one of our events, we do ask for personal information. We use this information for registration procedures, and to acknowledge receipt of your donation for tax purposes.
We take precautions to secure your information. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and offline. Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a lock icon in the address bar and looking for "https" at the beginning of the Web page address. While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, billing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers in which we store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment.
Online security and privacy are of the utmost importance to Maine Cancer Foundation. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
Maine Cancer Foundation partners with Authorize.Net , a leading payment gateway since 1996, to accept credit cards and electronic check payments safely and securely for our donors. Authorize.Net Payment Gateway adheres to strict industry standards for payment processing, including Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, encryption hardware and compliance with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Maine Cancer Foundation also employs SSL technology at its website interface to protect those providing information on forms.
When you register for an event or make a donation to Maine Cancer Foundation, you are placed on our mailing lists for emailed event information and program updates. If you are making a donation in honor or memory of someone, we will not use his or her personal information for any purpose other than to send an acknowledgment card.

Except as might be required by law, Maine Cancer Foundation does not sell, rent or distribute your information to any for-profit or nonprofit organization. Access to all personal information is restricted to only those employees who need it to provide our services to you.
