As many of you may know, I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer on February 24th of 2016 at the age of 34 years old. This diagnosis came as a complete shock as a healthy, young, newly engaged woman. I had thought that this was the darkest day of my life...I was wrong. The darkest day was on January 14th of 2017 when my biggest supporter, role model, and friend passed away very unexpectedly, my mother. She was only 66 years old.
My mother, Mary, dedicated every day of her life in 2016 toward researching integrative therapies and foods to help me through chemotherapy and radiation. She was also very passionate about helping others through their own battle with cancer and became an activist in fighting this terrible disease. My mother passed away just 2 months after completing my last day of radiation.
I have decided to complete the Tri for a Cure in honor of my mother. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Maine Cancer Foundation which fosters the most promising and effective cancer-fighting efforts available to the people of Maine through prevention strategies, early detection and screening efforts, as well as scientific research for future generations.
My mother and I had promised to raise money together for this cause in 2017. Please help me honor this promise by raising over $21,000 through the Tri for a Cure. This will exceed the money raised from the #1 donor of last year’s race. If it's for mom, I'm going big.
