Like many of you, Ken and I are no strangers to cancer. We attended the first Mary’s Walk event in 1999 after cancer had hit close to home: In 1998, I lost my beautiful mom (55) to colon cancer.
Ken’s cancer diagnosis in 2016 came as a complete shock. Two days before Thanksgiving, we were listening to an explanation of the treatment and surgery regimen for esophageal cancer. He was and still is the bravest man I will ever know.
Ken was the featured speaker at the 19th Mary’s Walk in 2017, where he detailed his six-week radiation and chemotherapy treatment and again spoke at the 20th event in 2018 to report on his successful esophagectomy surgery! He continues to be cancer free and continues to work and live a healthy, productive life! How lucky are we?
We started our fundraising team, KJ Cancer Crew, in 2017 and through the generosity of many family and friends raised more than $9,500 that first year! We continued in 2018 and were fortunate to raise $6,495.00! This year, KJ Cancer Crew’s team goal is to raise $10,000. We cannot do this without your help! No donation is too small; all donations will get us closer to the goal.
As the team captain, I have stepped down from the Mary’s Walk planning committee to concentrate on being part of KJ Cancer Crew and am super excited to walk with my family and friends to raise money for such a great cause. All funds go to Maine Cancer Foundation and stay in Maine for cancer treatment, patient advocacy and cancer screening.
To spice things up, we are designing a KJ Cancer Crew T-shirt and will give a free shirt to anyone donating at least $100 to the team goal by March 1, 2019.
Please join our KJ Cancer Crew Team and help us reach our goal! Thank you all so much!! I promise it will be a fun day!!!
