19years ago, when Sheila and I first walked the Mary's Walk route through Saco, the furthest thing from my mind was that I would be marking anniversaries free from Cancer's grip. This will be my third cancer free Mary's Walk since my diagnosis about 4 weeks after the 2015 Mary's Walk, which was the 16th Mary's Walk for Sheila and I . Having completed Cancer treatment, in March 2016 I was fresh off hip replacement surgery and participated in Mary's Walk on crutches, not wanting to sit on the sidelines. I've long since recovered from a 2017 hernia surgery and am champing at the bit to raise money and walk the 20th anniversary route in 2018, cancer free and pain free (mostly)! Help me bring successful outcomes to the yet undiagnosed and expand preventive protocols and advanced treatments. Thanks for your support!
Mary's Walk began in 1999 as a unique way to recognize and remember Mary Kerry Libby, a much-loved member of the Saco-Biddeford community who passed away from Burkitt's Lymphoma.
What started as a simple memorial stroll through town with a few hundred people has evolved into a major community effort that has attracted over 55,000 participants in its 18-year span and raised over $2.6 million to support Maine-based cancer programs through Maine Cancer Foundation.
Your contribution will be put to work funding Maine-based programs focused on cancer prevention, early detection, improving patient care and researching the causes & cures of this terrible disease. Thank you!
